Athlete Peniel Richard, addressed a gathering of business leaders at a breakfast hosted by the Lae Chamber of Commerce in Lae last week.
United States ambassador Catherine Ebert-Gray was in attendance along with representatives of several large US corporations visiting Lae to discuss business opportunities.
Richard, the national record holder in the long and triple jumps, spoke about his experiences as an athlete attending university in the US and was well received.
Following the function, Athletics Papua New Guinea (APNG) made a presentation to Ebert-Gray and the representatives about the country’s athletes attending colleges in the US.
One representative said she was delighted with the presentation and suggested that as part of their commitment to PNG, the company would consider providing a scholarship to enable an athletes to undertake post-graduate studies.
Ebert–Gray said she was impressed with the presentation and was excited to hear about the scholarship opportunity.
APNG secretary Philip Rehder thanked Lae Chamber of Commerce president John Byrne for inviting Peniel to speak at the gathering.
