A MAJOR road accident in Lae has left an infant dead and at least 10 people seriously injured after two buses collided on Monday, police say.
According to Lae metropolitan police commander Chief Supt Chris Kunyanban, 11 passengers, including the drivers and crews of the buses had been admitted at the Angau General Hospital after the accident.
“Twelve other passengers received minor injuries,” he said.
Chief Supt Kunyanban said the serious injuries included broken bones and internal injuries.
“Both public motor vehicles were travelling at high speed and were fully loaded with passengers.”
He said the bus heading from Malahang to Bumayong when negotiating a bend at Talis Kona, Back Road, veered onto the opposite lane and collided into another oncoming passenger bus.
“This accident is the result of driving with negligence,” he said.
“This is a very nasty traffic accident which would not have happened if the drivers were careful with their driving.”
