HUNDREDS of commuters in Southern Highlands province are today enjoying the upgrading of the road from Mendi to Tambul in the Western Highlands.

It is thanks to Southern Highlands Governor William Powi and Mendi MP De Kewanu who have contributed towards the upgrading of the road.

This road, which has been in existence since 1945 and is a vital link connecting Southern Highlands and Western Higlands, had been neglected for some time.

The much improved road now connects some 40,000 people of Upper Mendi.

Kewanu allocated K450,000 for the upgrading project while Powi chipped in K1 million.

Kilsol Trading and Karans Bushman Construction companies started working on the road maintenance last month.

So far, about 4km of the road has been completed.

PMV driver Wos Neni, from Mogol, said the upgrade has made travel a lot easier and he now makes two trips to Mendi instead of just one.

Tambul-Nebilyer MP Benjamin Poponewa was also urged to help Powi and Kewanu.

Kewanu has made roads, bridges and electricity supply a priority for his electorate, adding that when these basic things were in order, other services would easily come in.
