DESPITE a few setbacks during the first day of registration for first-year students at the University of Goroka, there have been major improvements since yesterday.
Director student admin Pascalis Mape indicated that the new UNI10 System being introduced to the staff, has since last week picked up momentum.
By 4.430am, the students queued had formed a queue that snaked all the way from the student dining hall to the student admin office.
A slow start, the registration had a few snags but Mape said that the positive thing was that a student was able to be processed in an hour.
“Previously, it would take students four weeks to register by going to various offices to complete just one form.
“Now with this one-stop shop everything is done and going smoothly,” Mape said.
Senior student admin officer Atito Musau Makarai said the new system was working even though the students queued up for hours.
He said that they managed to complete the registration of first-year, diploma, post-graduate and in-service students yesterday.
“Today we will be doing the non-school leavers,” he said.
“I’m proud of what we as the admissions office and others included have achieved in the hectic four days last week.”
