STAFF of the PNG Forest Authority have the same authority as the managing director when they are out in the field, acting managing director Goodwill Amos says.
He told staff at a PNGFA-Japan International Cooperation Agency workshop in Port Moresby that their roles included the monitoring of logging projects in the country.
Amos told field staff to use their authority in ensuring that companies in the forestry sector toed the line.
He was responding to a concern raised by PNGFA Area West manager Jerry Kowin over the constant movement of logging supervisors or camp managers.
Amos said logging supervisors or camp managers did not seem to be getting the message “because they keep changing”.
That is something companies will have to look at because in most cases, when you ask the camp manager or a logging supervisor whether he has a copy of the set up plan, annual logging plan or five-year logging plan, they don’t have it,” he said.
“All they are after is production as this will result in more revenue for them. This is something beyond our control.”
