Rooftop solar part of PNG Power plan: Official

ROOFTOP solar is part of PNG Power Ltd’s reform plan, says acting executive general manager business development Mairawesi Pulayasi.
Pulayasi told a town hall meeting in Port Moresby last Friday that part of the plan was to establish an Electrical Services Company (ESC) to drive the rooftop solar initiative.
Cabinet has approved the reform plan aimed at ensuring that State-owned enterprises (SOEs) are more efficient, cost-effective, and financially sustainable.
In the case of the electricity industry, improved efficiencies can be achieved through an unbundling of potential cost and profit centres into entities that can enter partnerships in line with the reform.
PNG Power proposed that SOEs could take equity stakes in the ESC as a one-stop shop that benefits all stakeholders.
Pulayasi said stakeholders could offer rooftops for the installation of solar photovoltaic arrays in provinces, replacing diesel generators.
Sustainable low-cost power and service-oriented mentality in the ESC will improve provision of communications, power, water and sewerage services.
The company will be able to offer service contracts for the installation of solar power at grid level and at remote sites, with water and telecommunication infrastructure.
