LANDS and Physical Planning Minister John Rosso says one of his key priorities is to increase revenue collections from the Lands Department from K27 million to K300 million next year.
Rosso, who is also Lae MP, said his predecessor and current Housing and Urban Development Minister Justin Tkatchenko had done some great work during his term and he was now continuing from where Tkatchenko left.
“There are many things that we are planning to do,” he said.
“I have outlined all these in my KPIs (key performance indicators) that I have issued to our senior management at the Lands and Physical Planning Department.”
Rosso told The National he was applying the principles he applied in his personal life as a successful businessman in order to drive the Lands Ministry and the Department of Lands and Physical Planning forward.
“I am taking a methodical approach so we organise and outline things properly and do things bit by bit slowly and appropriately to achieve the desired result successfully in the long-term,” he said.
“You don’t need to say loudly on what you wanted to do.
“Organise yourself well, plan out properly and stay committed and focused to your plans.
“Do things bit by bit to achieve what you want.
“Do it little by little to bring out a greater impact for the long-term.”
Rosso said land was a very important resource that can generate substantial income for the people and the government
He said he had already commenced the process of increasing revenue generation, apart from other key areas of focus such as proper registry of land titles.
