Rugby union hails Guise

PAPUA New Guinea Rugby Union (PNGRU) has hailed former international and national men’s rugby sevens coach, the late Douglas Guise, for his contributions to the sport.
The 40-year-old was understood to have collapsed while at training with Port Moresby club Nova on Thursday.
He was reportedly experiencing breathing difficulties before being rushed to the Pacific International Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
“It is with much sadness that we acknowledge the sudden passing of Douglas Guise,” PNGRU said in a statement.
“He represented PNG with distinction as a member of the Pukpuks sevens and 15s teams and later as a coach of the national men’s sevens team. The PNG rugby fraternity has lost a scholar, coach and mentor of our game and the impact of his passing will be felt across all levels of the sport.
“Guise lived an incredible life on and off the field.
“His achievements as a player and coach has set a benchmark for PNG rugby “His legacy will live on in the lives of those he had touched.
“We’d like to pass our sincere and heartfelt condolences to his family, as we share in their grief in losing a son, brother and father.”
Members of the rugby community in PNG and the Pacific paid their respects to Guise over the weekend.
Meanwhile, the Guise family has announced a haus krai at their Korobosea residence.
