TALENTED rural footballers are dominating the Southern Region U17 Youth Football Festival at the Bisini Football Grounds, says competition manager Paul Karambi.
On day three yesterday, Karawa — one of the two Central teams — came up with two big wins to surprise tournament organisers. The other Central team is Keapara.
Karawa beat Keapara 4-0 and St Charles Luanga 6-0. On Wednesday, Karawa defeated Salvation Army 11-0 and Koki Primary 5-0 and remain as the only undefeated team in the male division.
“The two Central teams are the surprise packages,” Karambi said.
“Their performances show us that they’ve been competitive in the village and coming to the city to display this sort of talent is very promising for them.
“Their performances have caused the selectors to consider including them in various PNG Football Association development programmes.”
Meanwhile, for the female divisions, the two PMSA teams were dominated their opponents yesterday.
The finals will be played on Sunday while the regular PMSA competitions are on hold this weekend.
Day three results: Males; Karawa 5 Keapara 0, PMSA two 2 NCD Secondary 0, Karawa 6 St Charles Luanga 0, Keapara 2 PMSA two 0, St Charles Luanga 3 Salvation Army 0, NCD Secondary 6 Salvation Army 0. Females; NCD Secondary 1 POMSS 0, PMSA Green 2 Charles Luanga 0.
