Papua LNG Project developer Total SA has provided assistance by way of basic services to people, according to a project update.
A delegation from New Caledonia led by President Philippe Germain and representatives of various departments were briefed on the progress and economic benefits of the Papua LNG Project.
New Caledonian companies have expressed interest in the mining sector and other projects in the country.
The report said two LNG fields had already been drilled at Elk and Antelope.
In terms of avoiding environment destruction, the pipeline is to be constructed and built along the Papua coastline under the sea.
That will avoid environment damages to forests, mountain ranges and displacement of people and other natural inhabitants.
Investors Total SA and ExxonMobil will build an airstrip and road infrastructure network to link communities around the project area to Port Moresby.
The project will provide more than 3000 jobs.
In terms of community engagement, communities among the two project influence districts – Kikori and Hiri – were getting health and education assistance through a partnership with Gulf and National Volunteer Services.
A lot of mapping work has been done to assist the local community to benefit from the project.
This is achieved by creating a source of income to generate money into their livelihood.
