YAGAUM rural hospital in Madang received a container full of medical supplies and equipment worth K600,000 last week from Rotary International.
The container was packed with new beds and mattresses for patients.
A Madang-based member of the Rotary International, Frank Goi, arranged the shipment with full financial assistance from the local MP Nixon Duban’s office.
Goi, who is also attached to Duban’s office, said the police minister had spent K30,000 for shipment of the container from Australia to Lae and Madang.
“Minister Duban who is your MP has priority for health, education and law and order and is willing to assist at all cost,” he said.
Madang district administrator Lawrence Pitor said Yagaum has been receiving more help from Duban, which showed that the leader wanted to develop his electorate.
Hospital administrator Belid Pitau also thanked Duban, Goi and Rotary International for the hospital supplies.
Yagaum hospital has been recently nicknamed by locals as “Duban hospital” because of the continuous assistance from the minister.
“He keeps coming often and giving to the hospital and in less than six four months, we received more form the minister’s office and we are looking forward to Duban’s many more surprises,” Pitau said
He said the minister had so far spent almost K1.5m to buy new equipment and upgrade facilities at the rural hospital.
Pitau said that it was Duban’s aim to upgrade the hospital so that local people could receive effective medical services.
