Ruthie determined to reach her goals

Education

RUTHIE Isaiah, 19, from Kieta in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville, has one main focus in life to complete her secondary education.
Despite losing her father who passed on last year, Isaiah has put all effort to her studies at the Mapex Training Institute (MTI) at the Kokopo campus in East New Britain.
She under took a occupational health and safety course at MTI which she enrolled at the beginning of this year.
“My father passed away last year when I was in grade 10 at Kieta Secondary School,” she said.
“I was selected to continue on to grade 11 this year but couldn’t continue because there was no-one to support me in paying for my school fees.”
Isaiah said the reason for her taking up occupational health and safety was because she wanted to graduate and find a job so that she could sponsor herself to continue on to grade 11 and 12.
“My dream is to be a mining engineer and I will work hard to enter the University of Technology in Lae, Morobe, where I am planning to take up a mining engineering course when I complete my secondary education,” she said.
Isaiah is the youngest in the family and all her other four siblings are married.
She completed her primary education at Roreinang Primary School in 2017 in Kieta.
She said she had sent applications seeking a job at some mining firms in PNG and was looking forward for a positive response.
