Sacking of employees

Letters

I WANT to comment on the sacking of the 93 employee of Ok Tedi Mining Ltd.
It is very sad to hear the sacking of a huge number of employee.
Most of them are the sole breadwinners of their family.
It was said that they were terminated because of a sit-in protest to get the company to hear their grievances.
The company said the protest was illegal as the protesters did not follow and comply with the company’s standing orders.
I am appealing to Mining Minister Johnson Tuke to send a team to Ok Tedi to investigate and file a report.
Tuke can present it to Parliament for Prime Minister Peter O’Neill and Cabinet to come up with a decision that will be beneficial to both parties.
Let’s stand up for Nationals and safeguard our work.
