Sacred Heart attributes good Gr 8 results to library

THE Sacred Heart Primary School did well in last year’s Grade 8 examinations and has attributed it to support from Hope World Wide (HWW) and the National Library Service.
Teacher-librarian Cathy Kiri told The National the equipping of the school library had helped students improve their literacy level.
“Last year, our school came second in English, mathematics and combined subjects. But, Sacred Heart came first overall in the National Capital District,” she said at the presentation of five sets of computers to the school by HWW.
“Last year, we promised the school eight computers, but gave only three. Today, we are here to fulfill that promise,” HWW representative Quhens Singur told the school assembly.
“Hope World Wide wanted to empower students and teachers so that students get the best in their education,” Singur said.
School head teacher Helen Ofora, a long-serving teacher in NCD, and her staff and students were present to receive the computers and two sets of encyclopedia from HWW, and a box of books from the national library.
“We, at Sacred Heart Primary, are privileged to have representatives from Hope World Wide and the national library donate the computers and books,” Ofora said.
National library adviser Mary Warus said the donations came under an on-going partnership programme between HWW and the National Library Service to equip schools with resources.
