RAKE Gahuna Sailas says he is grateful for being recalled to the Papua New Guinea Hunters by coach Michael Marum.
Sailas told The National yesterday he had no objections when he was released, but was now eager to work hard to repay the faith shown by Marum.
He said going back and playing for the Royals in the Port Moresby Rugby League had helped him maintain his fitness and form.
“I put my hand up to play for the Central Dabaris but was unsuccessful in joining them,” Gahuna said.
“Fortunately, I was selected for the Team PNG nines squad.
“I did not miss any of these trainings, knowing that there was still hope for me to return to the Hunters.
“And I’m glad it happened.
“I’d like to thank Marum and his coaching staff for having the confidence in me.
“Sunday’s game against the Souths Logan Magpies was my first real hit-out appearance.
“Since I was the starting hooker, I was hungry to perform.
“I want to prove to everyone that I’m still a good football player.”
Silas, from Morobe and the National Capital District, said he was quick off the mark from the dummy and gained valuable yardage, which had helped motivate the forwards to gain territory up the middle.
“I went through a great deal of soul-searching when I was released and this is an opportunity I must secure to redeem myself and get the small things right on and off the field on a consistent basis,” he said.
