THE Salvation Army is joining other churches in Jiwaka to provide services such as in health and education.
Captain Lista Du, in charge of health services and the commanding officer of Milsip church, said an agreement would be signed with the provincial government and the provincial health division in March to make them partners in providing health services to the people.
The Salvation Army is based at Tombil in Jiwaka. It was established in Jiwaka in 2001 to provide health, education and social services.
Through its primary healthcare programmes, which started in 2014, it built three aid posts to serve the communities at Kugark in South Waghi, Wara Mambil in Jimi, Kapalku in North Waghi and a clinic at Konjambi in Minj.
Du said they used funds provided by donor partners. Assistance from Australia in 2008 and 2009 enabled them to run their programmes.
In Jiwaka, the Salvation Army has churches at Nondugl, Kapalku, Banz Grammar, Wara Mambil, Tombil, Gunn, Kukpa, Milsip, Anglimp, Anda, and the new base at Konjamb.
“In each of these churches, we have adult literacy and children’s
literacy schools, which we plan to developed into bigger schools,” Du said.
