A GROUND BREAKING ceremony was held in Samoa last weekend for the construction of a five-star resort on the Taumeasina Island just off the Samoan capital of Apia.

Enga Governor Peter Ipatas, representing Prime Minister Peter O’Neill as his special envoy, joined Samoan Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi in kick-starting the luxury resort project.

The new resort is being spearheaded by the Lamana Group with Nasfund and Mineral Resource Development Company as partners.

The K120 million resort would be a mix of hotel suites and private villas.

It would take at least three years to complete.

The project is a major investment by a PNG group in the Samoan economy and was warmly welcomed by the people of Samoa and its government, which made the land available.

Speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony, Ipatas praised the stability of the Samoa government and economy, saying “such stability provided the right climate for investment”.
