LOCALLY owned Sanga Airline is starting flights out of the new Hayfield airstrip in East Sepik, company general manager John Paui says.
“This opportunity will enable people from Central Sepik to travel by plane from Maprik to Wewak, Madang and Vanimo in West Sepik and Mt Hagen in Western Highlands,” he said.
“We have agreed for the airline to operate out of Maprik district knowing that Maprik locals as well as locals from neighbouring districts are happy and willing for this new and exciting development.”
Paui said the company would provide safety and security for business, businessmen and women and all those willing and able to purchase tickets.
“This is a great investment for the Maprik district and we will ensure that it goes smoothly. This has built a foundation for economic opportunities and boost in the economy.”
Air Sanga has been in operation for at least seven years and is a locally owned company which operates around rural and other airstrips/ports including Gulf, Kiunga (Western), Telefomin (West Sepik) and Mt Hagen.
It will be the first time for the airline to operate out of East Sepik.
Maprik MP John Simon said his district development authority and the airline would be cooperating in the district for an indefinite period of time.
“However for independence, my DDA has agreed to subsidise flights to relevant destinations, including Vanimo and Madang. The DDA will meet half of the fares set for each of the destination set by Air Sanga.
“This is an independence special which will go for a week, until Sept 22.”
