SANGARA Netball are the champions of the Oro Country A and B grades.

They beat arch rivals Mumuni in the final at the Sangara Primary School Sports oval on Saturday.

Mumuni upset Sangara for the Under-17 honours.

All the grand finalists were presented cash prizes collected from affiliation and registration fees to the delight of the teams.

Two submissions for help were written to Oro Governor Gary Juffa and Sohe MP Delilah Gore but have yet to respond to the women in sport appeal.

Tournament director and selector Mabel Isa said the train-on squad was dominated by both associations for the national championship in Port Moresby.

Isa said the OCNA was now focused on a new direction and that was to target its junior development programme to identify potential in the rural districts.

OCNA president Phyllis Ami said the train-on squad members were told to raise their levy fees first with the deadline set for June.

Ami said in previous years players attended training but when it came to meeting levy requirements they were unable to do so and missed out in the national championship.

Most of these players will represent Higaturu during the Oro Provincial Games to select the Team Oro netball squad for the 2014 PNG Games in Lae, Morobe.

She said Higaturu was setting the benchmark in netball development in identifying, targeting and focusing on the rural players in Sohe district.

“Players are given the opportunity to excel in the code at the provincial and national level,” she said.
