Sapuri must not mislead people over PMC

Letters, Normal

LAST week, Dr Mathias Sapuri said the PMC was in line with the new health plan.
While some people may not fully understand what he meant, the medical professionals do.
This is the reason why, in the last PNG Medical Society AGM in Wewak early last month, Sapuri was voted out as president and replaced by Prof Nakapi Tefuarani.
Sapuri talked about the voice of the people; this is the voice of the people regarding healthcare because this was a decision by the professionals in medicine.
For the sake of the public, Prof Glen Mola, an expert in PNG health, was elected as the vice-president and for critics who think that the arguments about PMC are all based on private business, think again.
We are dealing with life, and as a nation, we should seek the advice from the most senior professionals available, unless it is a private idea for self-gain and gratification.
It is slowly becoming obvious what the real intentions of this project are.
The proposed hospital is already proving to be a failed idea with people diverting funds from the allocations of provincial hospitals to get this project off the ground.
My next point is that PMC, with its projected 60 beds, is not able to serve as the “national referral hospital”.
Why not improve the Port Moresby General Hospital which has close to 1,000 beds so the nation can come for treatment by our own specialists than scrambling around in the periphery?
There is something really wrong with the PMC idea.
The health minister and his cronies will continue to use the media to spread their propaganda but they dare not face the medical doctors.
