NAMATANAI MP Walter Schnaubelt is ready to join force with the 94 ward members of the six local level governments (LLGs) to ensure service delivery to the district.
Schnaubelt after an overwhelming victory by the National Alliance party affiliated ward members, said he was ready to work with all to trigger a “wind of change” in the district through an effective partnership approach at the ward level.
He said this at the swearing-in ceremony of the ward members at the Peter Torot Hall in Kavieng on Monday.
Schnaubelt said politics in New Ireland was not the same as in other parts of Papua New Guinea as their LLG elections had been influenced by party affiliations.
The province had only two dominant parties – People’s Progress Party (PPP) and National Alliance Party (NA).
Schnaubelt, who is the NA’s secretary general, congratulated all winning candidates.
He said he was ready to work with the six LLG presidents in the district to focus on delivering services to the people and to continue the programmes he had initiated since his election in 2017.
“We all have party affiliations that I understand but we have to find a way to work together,” Schnaubelt said. “I am ready to work with you in the spirit of unity and participation to serve our communities.”
NA claimed 14 seats out of 22 in the Central New Ireland LLG, 11 out of the 17 in the Konoagil LLG, 10 seats from 15 in Nimamar LLG, seven from 11 in the Matalai LLG and six seats from the 14 contested in the Tanir LLG.
