A NEW Mineral Resources Development Company (MRDC) scholarship awards programme will benefit students in resource project areas.
It aims to support them in their tertiary education.
They include students from:

  • OK Tedi mine villages;
  • COMMUNITY mine continuation agreement region in Western;
  • KUTUBU, Gobe and Moran oil projects;
  • PNGLNG plant site villages;
  • PNGLNG pipeline segment one-seven and;
  • HIDES four.

Managing director Augustine Mano said the MRDC recognised that education was the most powerful and effective investment to drive positive changes in the project areas.
“There is no better way to invest revenue from our finite resources than in the education of our children, especially when they reach tertiary level education and prepare for career decisions,” he said.
Mano urged students from the project areas entering tertiary institutions to apply for the scholarship through their subsidiary directors.
“I want to see as many students as possible benefit from this programme,” he said.
The scholarship awards committee will assess the applications.
“Hides, Angora and Juha are not included in this scholarship programme because clan vetting for these areas have not been done,” Mano said. “But once the clan vetting is completed, their students will be included.”
