FORTY students have returned from Australia with various skills and knowledge in healthcare, education, government administration, agriculture, law and justice, transport and infrastructure – thanks to a PNG-Australia partnership programme.
Minister for Public Service Westly Nukundj, speaking during a reception this week, said Australian-funded scholarships were long-standing and well regarded in PNG and were aligned closely with the priorities of the PNG Government.
“With that, I acknowledge and thank the government of Australia for the ongoing investment in PNG human resources to achieve the Government’s key priority outcomes,” he said. “The partnership, through this scholarship programme, is very significant as it provides PNG men and women with skills and knowledge to contribute to PNG’s economic and social development within the country.”
Since the inception of this partnership 20 years ago, more than 11,000 Papua New Guineans have benefitted studying in Australia and who have attained quality higher education qualification degrees.
“The Department of Personnel Management is working closely in partnership with the government of Australia to make sure that our economic and social developmental issues are properly addressed,” Nukundj said.
