THE school community accountability agreements (SCAAs) for elementary schools in Madang’s Transgogol were launched at Barum Elementary School (Mair and Barum elementary schools SCAAs) on June 22.
The agreements, under the “Together for education” (T4E) project, are aimed at enhancing access to quality elementary education for girls and boys, focusing on improving literacy and numeracy skills.
They were launched by Madang education adviser John Kim, World Vision PNG country director Heather Macleod and consultative implementation and monitoring council (CIMC) executive officer Wallis Yakam.
Separate launches for 10 schools in Madang were held throughout the week in Middle Ramu (2 schools), Usino/Bundi (4) and Madang (4).
CIMC is working with World Vision and ChildFund through the T4E project to implement SCAAs in 30 selected schools (10 schools per province in Madang, Morobe and Central).
The SCAA concept is about enhancing communication, local ownership, instilling good school governance, information sharing, resource mobilisation, collaboration, support and commitment among all stakeholders to ensure that elementary children are given the necessary support to attend classes regularly and achieve
improved literacy and numeracy skills.
McLeod said it all came down to accountability and with all partners keeping their end of the bargain.
The T4E project is supported by the Australian government, through the PNG-Australia Partnership Fund, and implemented by World Vision in partnership with Child Fund, Library For All, the CIMC and the University of Canberra.
