School app helps data get across faster

THE education department’s “my school app” has an in-built global positioning system which can help inspectors vet and upload schools census data at the school.
The software was created by the education department to help schools transmit their census data.
The software is the electronic version of the school census form. Information on the school census forms will be transferred into the software electronically.
Morobe senior education officer Alfred Tobem said the app would greatly help school inspectors. It will give the correct data on students’ enrolment, the number of teachers and infrastructure in the school.
“The software will minimise data loss, damaged census forms and cut down on transport problems. It will help inspectors with information to visit schools, and they will be able to upload data at the school,” Tobem said.
The global positioning system (GPS) in the software would indicate where exactly information is being uploaded or vetted.
Tobem said schools will not be able to provide false data, or head teachers coming up with excuses.
A team led by assistant secretary James Agigo was in the province last week to register schools in the system.
Agigo said they had registered 128 schools from elementary to vocational institutions in Lae district.
He said 80 schools uploaded their census data last Friday.
He said head teachers having problems with using the software were being assisted by teachers who were computer literate.
