School closed after positive case

A SCHOOL in Port Moresby was forced to close last Thursday after a student tested positive for the Covid-19.
Principal of the Port Moresby International School Steven Rowley said in a newsletter issued to parents and guardians last week that the student was in grade seven.
“The National Control Centre incident manager Dr Daoni Essorom has confirmed with us that the student is from our school,” he said.
“A testing team was called in and an immediate test was carried out on the grade 7 class students and their teachers.”
Rowley said the school should be reopened today if cleared by authorities.
The school through the International Education Agency has assured families of students that they will work with authorities to ensure that the school is safe for classes to continue.
“We are mindful that precautions are necessary to avoid the spread of the Covid-19,” he said. “The school is not the source of infection as the student had contracted the virus through community transmission.”
Meanwhile, the school has put in place measures for students, staff and visitors to follow when entering the school premises.
“We have been following the processors and procedures of the Covid-19.
“The school ensures that staff and students wear masks, practise social distancing and wash hands.”
