Welfare service files case for Jenelyn’s children

National

NATIONAL Child and Family Welfare Services executive director Simon Yanis has filed an application in court for the State to have interim custody of the late Jenelyn Kennedy’s two children.
If it is successful, the State will take custody of Bosip Kaiwi Jnr aged two and Mahalia Kaiwi aged one, and place them with a foster parent deemed to take the best care of them.
The children’s father Bosip Kaiwi is facing a charge of wilful murder and is remanded in prison.
Jenelyn Kennedy was allegedly tortured over five days at her home until she died on June 23.
Family members who wished to remain anonymous told The National that the two children are still living with a woman who is known to the Kaiwi family. Yanis’ office has also invited Jenelyn’s family to join the proceedings as an interested party. “They have asked us to join as a party and we have engaged Ralph Saulep Lawyers to file an application to join in the custody proceedings,” a family member said.
“We are expecting a long drawn-out court battle and we are prepared to fight for Jenelyn’s children.”

  • Child and Family Welfare Services is jumping the gun, and in doing so, trying to set a precedent in PNG where this is practice is never know to exist before. PNG is a society where the family ties and bonds are very strong. I am sure, the children can be taken care for by the families of either Bosip,Kaiwi or the late Jenelyn Kennedy., whoever is allocated custody by the Court and not a Foster Home. Are the grand parents , uncles, aunties, etc from either sides of the families all dead or migrated to another country or another planet? This is pure publicity stunt by Simon Yanis.

  • OK, olgeta pikinini raun lo street blo POM ya ksim na putim lo foster home. I ting they are OK with both father /mother relatives, simple PNGians society lifestyle.

  • What a pure nonsense and publicity stunt by Child Welfare and Protection Division of Community Development Department. What makes these two children exceptional apart from those suffering in our cities and towns who are in similar situations. I suggest Simon Yanis to go to 4mile Boroko at night and pick those unfortunate ones or even at our dump sites and select those poor kids. Yu panim wok ya lusim…

  • Foster home? Is this for real? Who is the government certified care giver here? Will they not be subject to further neglect and abuse? The guy proposing this is either watching to much movies or is on high on something as timing for foster care in PNG is not yet here!
