A SCHOOL in Port Moresby that closed last week after a grade seven student tested positive for Covid-19 reopened yesterday.
Port Moresby International School (Pomis) principal Steven Rowley said in a Facebook post yesterday that the Covid-19 test results of students and teachers who were in contact with the infected student were received on Thursday.
“We received the results of those that had the Covid-19 tests last Thursday and it was pleasing that all have returned negative,” he said.
“The school was cleaned thoroughly.
“The cleaning focused on areas that the positive student used.
“The cleaning also focused on common places like toilets, the canteen, library and student seating areas.”
Rowley said Pomis had reopened upon clearance from the Health authorities.
But he said the Covid-19 testing would continue at the school’s campus.
“Dr Daoni Essorom, the incident manager of the National Control Centre, has been pleased with the school so we will resume classes as intended,” he said.
“A team from the National Capital District health services were in school yesterday to assist in performing tests on anyone with symptoms of the Covid-19.
“Tests were also done on persons identified as a person of interest.”
Rowley said the positive case taught them a great lesson about how important it was for everyone to keep up with the protocols put in place to prevent the spread of the Covid-19.
