THE students and staff of the Kelua Primary School in the Hagen Central district of Western Highlands are celebrating the opening of new toilet blocks.
These are six toilets for boys and six for girls.
The project was jointly funded by the PNG Red Cross, International Committee of the Red Cross and the school.
The total cost was K110,000.
Head master William Wat said the student population of 700 needed good clean facilities.
“When I heard that the PNG Red Cross was going around building toilets in villages, I approached their office with my proposal last year.”
The organisation gave K90,000 with the school putting in K20,000.
The new toilets would address health risks in the school and enable students to be healthy and focused on their education.
School board chairman Joseph Rut commended David Knox and Pauline Rose from the PNG Red Cross branch in Hagen for making it possible for the school to receive their help.
