STUDENTS of Gordon Secondary School in Port Moresby planted 50 trees to celebrate the World Environment Day on Monday, says a senior teacher.
Deputy principal academic Francis Saju said this year was the school’s golden jubilee, hence, the student representative council initiated the idea of planting 50 trees within the school yard.
“The eight classes of grade 10 and 12, were asked to plant two trees per class,” he said.
“There are also eight classes for grade nines and 11s, but they were asked to plant only one tree per class.”
Saju said other students brought a tree from home to plant within the school yard.
“We were expecting a minimum of 50 trees but many students brought trees to plant,” he said. Saju said it was vital for students to practice reforestation before going into the real world.
