SCHOOL teacher Casper Goi is the latest victim of rascals from the notorious Biwat settlement in Lae, Morobe, after he was attacked and robbed of his belongings yesterday.

The Umi Vocational Centre teacher escaped possible death from three armed robbers and is nursing a 5cm wound on his forehead.

Goi, from Angoram in East Sepik, was going from company to company dropping off his students’ job search letters for their industrial training later this year when he was attacked.

Goi said he tried to fight off the first attacker but was overpowered by another two who wielding knives. They stole his bag containing documents and about K200 in cash.

He added that policemen at the China Town station were not helpful while the Biwat community leaders refrained from assisting him to recover the stolen items.

“More innocent victims will be attacked in that area,” Goi said.

“I found out that the residents and so called community leaders were not helpful meaning they were tolerating such activities.”

Vocational Centre manager Yoka Guwo condemned the attack on Goi who was responsible for training and rehabilitating unemployed youths.

“The Biwat settlers have continuously tolerated their sons and men from committing illegal activities by not reporting them to police and authorities, therefore the authorities should remove this squatter settlement,” Guwo said.

It was reported that a student was also attacked on Wednesday at the same spot and his bag and personal items stolen by rascals from the Biwat settlement.
