School will pilot programme to boost learning

EAST New Britain’s Vundavai Primary School, in Gazelle, will be piloting an e-library programme aimed at improving students’ learning and academic performance.
The school, in the Livuan-Reimber local level government, won a debate competition two years ago to mark the 16 Days Human Rights Activism and they are now the lucky recipients of e-learning materials courtesy of Gazelle MP Jelta Wong.
The Asia Pacific communication specialists engaged to set up the e-library for the school.
The application is designed to be used with tablets and mobile phones.
The programme will be trialed and, if successful, it will be rolled out to six other schools in the district.
Wong, who is Health and HIV/AIDS Minister, when delivering the tablets to the school on May 17, said the e-library would greatly assist in encouraging students to get themselves into the reading culture which was sadly not effectively embedded in students today.
He was concerned that this was one of the underlying factors that continued to cause a decline in the standards and quality of education in the country.
“Through the e-library, students will be given equal opportunity to access the internet for learning and exploring,” he said.
“In-depth knowledge can be attained on a particular subject matter only through reading related books.”
Head teacher Yabu Nuak said the programme would benefit students academically in the long-term .
The school will be celebrating its 50 years, or its golden jubilee, in July and the e-library programme was a milestone for them.
