THE Popondetta Schoolboys Rugby Football League competition kicks off in May.

The league has appointed Ali Kosky as president to oversee and manage affairs in its infancy.

This is first of its kind in the province and managed to promote and develop the code with the raw talents around.

Kosky confirmed from Popondetta that Northern Governor Gary Juffa and the foundation’s development officer Arnold Krewanty would be in town to officially launch the schoolboys’ competition.

He said only four teams would take part in the Under-13, U15 and U17 from Popondetta and Resurrection Primary School (Ijivitari district) and Siroga and Sangara (Sohe district). The competition is only for students from these four schools targeted by Popondetta Rugby Football League.

“This is trial and error period with only four schools involved and we hope to increase the numbers in 2014,” Kosky said.

He warned the four schools principals, sports masters, mistress and parents that the league would play by tough guidelines and rules to promote fair play.

“I want to see that the players enjoy the game.”
