Schools in Morobe urged to report quake damages

SCHOOLS in Morobe which may have been affected by Sunday’s 7.6 magnitude earthquake must immediately report any damage and casualties to their district development authorities, an official says.
Morobe education adviser Keith Tangui said the district offices were responsible for assisting elementary and primary schools, while the division would assist high and secondary schools.
He said due to fund limitations, the division would depend on the help of the district authorities.
“Our main concern are the remote schools in the districts that were badly hit,” he said.
“We have not received any reports of schools affected since the earthquake. But if there are any, report it to your district inspectors and education managers so they can alert your DDAs.”
Tangui also said all schools should have undergone disaster alert and preparedness by now.
“School representatives have undergone a training-of-trainers programme to return to their schools and carry out in-service for their students and teachers,” he said.
“All school must be prepared and know what to do during any emergency, whether natural or man-made.”
