THE Port Moresby Rugby Football League (POMRFL) has added the National Capital District Schools Rugby League (NCDSRL) competition to its schedule to promote junior development at the National Football Stadium.
“This is our future and foundation so we are including the schools competition to promote and develop the game at the junior level,” POMRFL junior vice-president Manu Lofena said.
“This is POMRFL’s player nursery where the league will harvest young talents to take the competition to another level.”
He said many of the junior players would go on to play in the POMRFL competition.
NCDSRL president Arnold Gende said the junior competition would develop as a pathway to bigger competitions like POMRFL and the Digicel Cup.
He said qualified referees and touch judges help talented students lift their game.
After round two, Kaugere Primary (girls) and Eki Vaki (boys) are leading their divisions.
“We are heading into round three of the boys’ and Under-18 girls’ divisions which are gaining momentum,” Gende said.
U18 fixtures: Fri, Nov 13 — Kaugere Primary v Kilakila Secondary (12pm), Hohola Demonstration v Taurama Primary (12.30pm).
