UNIVERSITY of PNG’s East New Britain Students’ Association (ENBSA) has been working on a holiday project to put its theme “Uniting ENB for Change” into practice.
The project, which includes book supplies to secondary and high schools, solar light distribution and medical supplies are part of an initiative of the association to give something back to their province.
UPNG ENBSA president Ryan Tade told The National that all throughout the year the students had raised funds towards the big project – now on the way.
The fundraising included selling of ENB printed shirts, barbecues, fundraising nights and the major fundraising which was the ENB Day held at Jack Pidik Park.
Tade said apart from the fundraising, the association had financial support from the ENB Tourism Authority and Bank of Papua New Guinea.
Tade thanked the owner of PNG Brothers Construction Ltd in Port Moresby Dennison Kyvung for supporting the association financially and providing transport during ENB Day.
Social and events committee Joshua Kamilo said “we cannot wait for the Government to come in and make the change”.
“We the people have to stand up and do something for our people instead of waiting for Government funding which will take forever to be delivered,” he said.
The holiday project begun with phases one and two, the delivery of books to primary schools, and awareness for tertiary institutions to secondary schools.
Five primary schools in the four districts were visited and supplied with books.
