Construction of a double classroom and a teacher’s house at two primary schools in Rigo district is expected to be done within four months, MP Lekwa Gure says.
Gure officiated at two groundbreaking ceremonies for the construction of one double-classroom and one double-bedroom teacher’s house each at Makerupu and Rilo primary schools in Hula.
“Rigo will be the first district in Central to launch its five-year development plan next month,” Gure said. “One of the development plans includes upgrading of school infrastructure. Today marks the beginning of this project.
“Four local contractors, who have bid for the projects, have been allocated each to a school to start the project.
“A total of K1.1 million have been allocated to build classrooms and teachers houses.
“The construction of one double-classroom and one double-bedroom teacher’s house for one school will cost close to K300,000,” Gure said. “Of the total, 34 per cent of the mobilisation funds has been released today to each contractor for ground work preparations.”
He said 40 per cent would be given after the supervision of building began and the 26 per cent when completed.
He said he wanted the buildings to be according to specifications and design.
Gure urged his people to take ownership of their land and sea.
