Schools to receive free furniture from charity group

Education

SCHOOLS in Chimbu will receive furniture for free through a donor aid charity group that supplied chairs, tables and desk for students.
Pacific Assist Charity organisation has provided chairs, tables and desk for students.
The school equipment will be issued to different schools throughout the province by its education department.
Chimbu governor’s project officer Joe Gull said the 40-foot container consisted of materials worth more than K700,000.
It was shipped from Melbourne, Australia, five months ago and awaiting clearance and arrangements before being transported to Chimbu for distribution.
He said it was an ongoing donation received annually from the donor.
He said it was a good initiative where the provincial government and districts should think outside the box to assist in service delivery to the people.
“In this time of financial constraints faced by the Government, districts and provinces should seek assistance from donor agencies apart from waiting for district services improvement programme and provincial services improvement programme funds to deliver basic services and infrastructure.”
Gull said the furniture would be distributed amongst schools and the two containers would be used to build a cop shop stationed at Barawagi to provide police presence and address law and order in the area.
