Scorpions out to secure third title

Sports

SCORPIONS will be defending the men’s premier title for the third time tomorrow in the NCD Volleyball Association grand final.
It will be a replay of last season’s decider against Jamas at the Taurama Aquatic Centre.
Scorpions’ men are fresh after winning the club championship title two weeks ago, while Jamas were on a bye and a long three weeks break might back fire on them. Jamas will be strong at the net with the height of George David and Charlie Maino, both have international experience and will be supported by Poka Ai, Ogi Lelesi, Antonio Eri and setter Martin Ray, whose skill level will be tested by the grand final intensity.
Scorpions on the other hand have good height and skills in Onne Koi Jr, Andy Sinari and Damien Aisi.
The setter combination of Simon Toua and Alpha Pala who is unstoppable will be an advantage for the Mathew Walo-coached team.
For the women, Scorpions will clash with two-time reigning queens, PTPSL Telikom, who will be going for their third consecutive title.
Telikom are well balanced with players like Kenny Manoni, Madia Hairai, Bibiana Paloa, Jynar Bernard and setter Franky Daton.
But they have to lift their tempo from where they performed during their club championship.
Scorpions are in form with Michele Walo and Isa Hick leading the onslaught.
They started slowly against U-Mi Yet last Saturday, but accelerated to the finish line and that is something the technicians must be wary off.
