Search for wife nets K16,700 worth of goods

A WEST Sepik-based National Intelligence Organisation officer appeared before the Vanimo District Court charged with stealing K16,700 worth of electronic items from a house in Vanimo, Senior Magistrate Sasa Inkung said.
Inkung said the man went looking for his wife after an argument but when he found her in a house, he became annoyed, ransacked the place and stole what he could find.
David Im, 57, from Mendi, Southern Highlands, appeared on Wednesday accused of stealing a television, mobile phones, cameras, DVD player, DVD/CD discs, Digicel play box, radio, gold watch, computer and computer cables after entering the house in the Tower area of Vanimo town on Feb 15.
He is now on a K1,500 bail and will appear before the same court again on July 29.
Inkung said Im appeared in court on charges of stealing after entering the house searching for his wife after an argument.
“When he found her in the victim’s house, he was annoyed and ransacked the house, stealing the valuable electronic items,” the magistrate said.
Meanwhile, the court committed two policemen to a trial in the National Court for allegedly damaging a vehicle during a road accident that involved a police vehicle near Vanimo town in Feb.
The court had found enough evidence to commit Leroy Tamsen, 25, from Yakamul village, Aitape district, West Sepik and Enock Kore, 27, from Wantokori village, Okapa district , Eastern Highlands to stand trial on charges of causing grievous bodily harm and wilful damage.
Raphael Kua, 26, from Tamtai village, Sinasina-Yongomugl district, Chimbu and Kore were passengers in the police vehicle.
The policemen, instead of assessing the situation to determine the cause of the accident, allegedly bashed up Fidelis Sombu, the driver of the oncoming vehicle.
Kua allegedly fired bullets from his police-issued pistol, narrowly missing Sombu’s right eye.
The policeman also allegedly damaged Sombu’s vehicle by breaking the rear and front screens and rear vision mirrors.
They were all alleged to be drunk. Sombu receiving surgery to his right eye”.
Inkung said that Kua had already been committed in to stand trial before the National Court on charges of unlawfully discharging a police firearm, causing grievous bodily harm and wilful damage.
