A SEASIDE feast will help raise funds for a mission organisation’s next round of outreach programmes.
Youth With A Mission is preparing to hold its Breakfast by the Sea fundraiser next week on the wharf at Sandspit Drive, in Townsville, alongside the medical ship mv Ywam PNG.
The fundraiser comes as the ship prepares to sail out of Townsville on September 16 after several months of refitting.
The refit includes included an increase in accommodation capacity from 116 to 140 people, the construction of a new training room and laundry and galley upgrades.
After departing, the ship will undergo further maintenance in Cairns before delivering healthcare services in Papua New Guinea for eight months from October.
Ywam managing director Ken Mulligan said more than 600 people were expected to attend the event, with tickets still being sold.
“There’s been a lot of different people working and engaging with us,” he said. “This is a really proud moment for us, sharing these stories with Townsville.
“It’s really incredible to see so many people working together on a project that’s so tangible and helps so many in a nation like Papua New Guinea. It’s going to be a wonderful event.”
The Breakfast by the Sea fundraiser will be held on August 31. –Townsville Bulletin
