KUMULS coach Michael Marum has called up SP Hunters skipper Moses Meninga and Wartovo Puara as replacements for James Segeyaro and Lachlan Lam ahead of the World Cup Nines in Sydney, Australia.
Segeyaro has been suspended by the NRL after testing positive for a banned substance, di-hydroxy LGD-4033.
Assistant coach Stanley Tepend said yesterday that Lam could not make it due to personal commitments.
He said most of the 16-man squad were in camp, with Daniel Russell arriving yesterday.
Melbourne Storm centre Justin Olam and Sydney Roosters youngster Bernard Lewis will join the team later this week.
“Today (yesterday) was our first hit-out and the boys had a gym session in the morning,’’ Tepend said.
“This afternoon, they did little bit of running.
“Some players finished their seasons earlier than others who are yet to arrive.
“The afternoon session was to see whether the players were carrying injuries.
“I think the selectors have done a good job in picking halves who are fast. We need creativity in our game as there are only nine minutes in each half.
“The boys are looking forward to playing in the tournament.
“We’ll get stuck into training here and go down to Sydney on Monday to finalise our preparations for the tournament.”
The inaugural World Cup Nines will be held from Oct 18-19 at Bankwest Stadium.
