PAPUA New Guinea golfer Kristine Seko will become the first brand ambassador for the SP PNG Golf Open which is scheduled for April 26-29 at the Royal Port Moresby Golf Club.
The 32-year-old Seko, pictured, was announced as the brand ambassador in November lwhen the annual event was officially launched.
“I think it’s the first time for the SP PNG Golf Open to have a brand ambassador so it’s a big privilege for me and a good opportunity to showcase the event and PNG golf in general,” Seko said.
“Being the brand ambassador means a lot and it’s very exciting to be recognised not only as the ambassador but as a female PNG golfer to be given this opportunity to promote the event and golf in general.
“There will be opportunities to showcase through the media.
“Depending on what SP Brewery has in mind, we will also be talking about the international players that will be coming.
“My role is to promote PNG golf and the elite Papua New Guinea golfers in our midst so it’s an opportunity for PNG golfers to try to strive to compete in the local annual event.
Seko, from Madang and Northern, is an athlete who spent most of her early life growing up in the golf course in Madang.
Her parents Duncan and Sagilam were national golfers and she got her inspiration from them.
After winning two gold medals in the 2015 Pacific Games and being the flag bearer for team PNG in the recent 2017 Pacific Mini Games, Seko plans to continue her golf career and encourage young women to take up the sport.
