A SENIOR police officer in Milne Bay died on Monday after a short illness.
Insp John Magaidimo, 55, from Towagesi village, West Fergusson Island in Es’ala, was pronounced dead by doctors at the Alotau General Hospital at around 10pm.
His medical report said he died of diabetes.
Provincial police commander Supt Lincoln Gerari confirmed the death, saying Magaidimo was the rural police commander at the time of his death.
“He was in and out of the hospital a number of times. We are saddened by his death as he is a highly-experienced officer,” Gerari said.
He said Magaidimo served the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary for 37 years.
He joined the police force in 1975 after completing Grade 10 at Cameron High School.
Gerari said Magaidimo had spent most of his career in Mt Hagen and was transferred to his home province last year.
There he served until his death on Monday. He will be missed
dearly.
