The East Sepik government and Maprik district development authority have provided K90,000 to fix a bridge along the Sepik Highway, says Governor Allan Bird.
He said yesterday that the bridge at Wamaian village in Saussia was a link for about 380,000 people in Maprik, Yangoru-Saussia, Wosera-Gawi and Ambunti-Dreikikir in East Sepik and Nuku and Lumi in West Sepik to Wewak.
“The provincial government provided K40,000 from its internal revenue and the Maprik district development authority provided K50,000 from its electoral funds to fix this deteriorated bridge at Wamaian village in Saussia,” Bird said.
“This bridge along the national highway has been neglected by the Works Department for about seven years.
“It is falling apart so we are now forced to fix it. It still needs serious upgrading.”
