SEPIK general secretary Clarence Hukahu says the Women’s National Soccer League (WNSL) team are impressed with the selection of eight of their players in the national train-on squad.
He told The National yesterday that four of the eight players were students under the age of 20 and their inclusion in the squad was a boost for their player development.
Hukahu said Gloria Balamus, Kesai Kotome and Bridgit Paime were part of previous national squads which would help their younger players to adapt to international football.
“They have been sharing their experience with the rest of the team throughout the WNSL season, so I’m sure they will continue,” he said.
Sepik’s other selected players are Jillian Bai, Sharlyn Jagi, Sharmalyn Kerek, Juaneth Mistera and Phornica Nere.
Hukahu said two of them were in Grade 7 while the other pair were in Grade 10.
“Seeing our young players earn selection is rewarding of the effort that we’ve put into developing them over the years,” he said.
“Just being part of the national train-on squad will inspire and motivate the other upcoming players in Sepik to step up and play football.”
Hukahu commended the Papua New Guinea Football Association (PNGFA) for appointing coach Gorden Torovu to oversee training in Wewak until the school holiday where they would join the Port Moresby or Lae camp.
