MEMBERS of Parliament must serve the interests of their people and not their own, Mendi MP De Kewanu says.

“MPs are elected by the people and our priority is to serve the people first at all cost and consider ourselves as servants of the people and not the bosses or having the big man mentality,” he said.

“We are elected to wipe out the people’s cries for basic government services that are lacking and they continue to suffer in silence.”

Kewanu said road infrastructure would be his first priority and would take up 40% of funds from the district services improvement programme.

He presented an PC200 excavator to his Mendi electorate last month to upgrade feeder roads in the local level government areas of Upper Mendi, Karinz and Lai Valley.

Kewanu also bought three generators for health centres in the three LLGs, which cost K90,000.

He also bought a new VSat satellite and computer equipment for the district office as well as uniforms for village court officials in Mendi district.

The presentation was made at the Mendi district office and was witnessed by Treasury Minister Don Polye.
