Seven arrested in gun battle incident

POLICE in West New Britain have arrested seven men in connection with a gun battle at Kandrian Station.

Provincial police commander Chief Insp Samson Siguyaru said the seven included unsuccessful LLG election candidate Joe Kampas and his brother Justin Mali.

They have been charged with the murder of a man during a fight that erupted after the announcement of Lawrence Mango as the winner of the Kandrian Inland LLG president seat.

Police said the supporters of other candidates started a fight with Mango’s group.

Siguyrau said Mango was also brought in to be interviewed but later released.
