SEVEN gunmen robbed the Tufi Dive Resort of an undisclosed amount of money in Popondetta last Thursday.
Northern police commander acting Supt Daniel Yangen said a Filipino man was taken hostage during the robbery but he was freed about a kilometer away.
“All seven robbers were armed with factory-made pistols when they held up the resort employees,” he said.
“After taking money and valuables, they fled with the man as hostage.
“The man was holding on to a 2-way radio.”
Supt Yangen said the man (hostage) returned to the resort after the robbers fled.
“We also believe that the same gang had robbed some other stores near the beach,” Supt Yangen said.
“I appeal to the public to work with the police with any information on the armed and dangerous robbers.”
“Your family may be the next victim if you know them (robbers) and their whereabouts but do not help us locate and arrest them.
“I am new to this province and I want to work with all community leaders in the urban areas and in the rural communities to address crime and help fight it.”
