Sharing of learning materials affects performance: Teacher

SHARING of learning materials by students contributes to low performance in schools, according to a head teacher.
Situm Primary School head teacher Ursula Tura made the remarks during the opening of a K200,000 double classroom funded by the National Gaming Control Board.
Tura said the tuition fee-free (TFF) component of 40 per cent for commodities and the infrastructure development in schools was not enough.
“There should be strategies taken so that the government can take on board, purchasing of curriculum materials,” she said.
Tura said if the government could take on board the purchasing of school curriculum materials while the schools only took care of the commodity component, it would be much better in addressing the issue.
She said this was because TFF components were not paid into schools on time as scheduled and in full as per quarterly budgeted.
“This gives huge pressure on our budget proposal as there is not enough money to cater for all the cost areas in the budget at any one time,” Tura added.
The National Gaming Board provided funds to build the classroom while Nawaeb district authority gave K19,000 classroom furniture.
